When you are fully saturating your watercolor paper you’re going to need to tape it down. It prevents bubbling and warping. I have taped down the first painting that comes in the kit. However, you’ll notice in my demos I myself am not working with a taped down sheet of paper. If you aren’t painting all the way to the edges you paper is less likely to bubble and thus the need to tape it down is also less. I never want to assume that you yourself don’t want to add a background, and having it done for you once in the kit you can see what needs to be done in case you need it in the future.
